What You'll Do

What will I actually do as an oven cleaning franchise owner?

If you're thinking about joining Oven Rescue, here's what a working day really looks like.

If you're thinking about joining Oven Rescue you'll probably want to know what you'll actually be doing once you're up and running.

The short answer? You'll spend a lot of your time out on the road, visiting customers and cleaning ovens, hobs, AGAs, range cookers and extractor fans.

You'll also carry out smaller jobs within your larger jobs, such as replacing oven bulbs and door seals, where needed.

Oven cleaning / AGA and range cooker cleaning

Oven cleaning is likely to be a big part of your working week. You could be cleaning a family's everyday oven, tackling years of built-up grease or working on a larger cooker that needs a more thorough clean.

A typical job could involve:

  • Inspecting the oven and checking its condition
  • Removing racks, trays and other removable parts
  • Applying the appropriate cleaning products
  • Removing built-up grease, carbon and food residue
  • Cleaning the inside of the oven, including the door and glass
  • Cleaning removable parts and putting everything back together
  • Checking the finished result with the customer

The jobs can vary considerably. One appointment might be a standard single oven, while another could involve a much larger cooker that needs more time and attention.

You could also find yourself working on larger and more specialist cookers, including AGAs and range cookers. These jobs can involve cleaning multiple ovens, hotplates, racks, trays and other components, so they can take longer than a standard oven clean.

Hob cleaning

Hobs can also form a regular part of your day, including induction, ceramic and gas hobs.

You'll clean away grease, food residue and built-up grime, while taking care to use the right cleaning method for the type of hob you're working on.

Extractor fan cleaning

Extractor fans and filters can collect a lot of grease over time, particularly in busy kitchens.

You'll clean the extractor fan and its filters, removing the grease and grime that builds up through everyday cooking.

Oven bulbs and door seals

Not every job is just about cleaning.

Where needed, you may also replace oven bulbs or worn door seals. These are smaller jobs, but they can make a real difference to the customer and are another part of the practical work you'll carry out.

What does a typical day look like?

A day might look something like:

  • 8:30amTravel to your first appointment
  • 9:00amClean an oven and hob in a customer's home
  • 11:00amTravel to the next customer
  • 11:30amClean a range cooker and extractor fan
  • 1:30pmLunch and travel
  • 2:00pmComplete an AGA cleaning job
  • 4:30pmFinish the final job and head home

The exact hours will depend on how you run your business, your customer base and the jobs you've booked.

And because you're the business owner, your role isn't only about cleaning. You'll also need to manage your diary, speak to customers, deal with enquiries, keep on top of payments and expenses, maintain your equipment and manage the day-to-day running of the business.

As the business grows, you may eventually spend less time doing the cleaning yourself and more time managing other people and the operation.

So, could you see yourself doing this?
